Leonardo DiCaprio. We still remember the young Jack Dawson from titanic. The Wolf of the wall street, an actor playing an actor from Once upon a time in Hollywood, the ruthless slave master from Django unchanged (God…I really wanted to punch that guy in the face, Leo made it soo convincing).
That’s how we know this legendry actor. However, only a few know about his contribution to the world( apart from acting in some of the greatest movies ever made).
Yes, we are talking about the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.
The foundation focuses on protection and conservation of our environment and the species that inherit the earth with us. DeCaprio throughout his 300 year long career has worked to bring attention and funding to the three major areas of environmental conservation- Protecting biodiversity, Ocean and forest conservation and climate change.
Using the power of Media
Apart from that, DiCaprio has used the power of media and movie industry to educate people about the environmental issues. He was involved in creation of the documentary film- 11th Hour, which discussed the grave problems that our planet faces.
Apart from that he has worked on short web documentaries called “Water Planet” and “Global Warming” which are both available on YouTube. DiCaprio has worked as executive producer on a number of feature-length documentaries including “Cowspiracy” and “Sea of Shadows.”
Support for Vegan
Being an environmentalist also involves protecting the animals that live in it.
He has invested large amounts of money in vegan companies which offer more sustainable means of feeding our global population. His investments include plant-based milk manufacturer, Califia Farms and the Beyond Meat company which has won awards for its plant-based mock meat products.
Humanitarian
Apart from being an environmentalist DiCaprio is also a active humanitarian. He works for the welfare and growth of indigenous communities. Not only that, he also works for the development of SOS children’s village and Feeding America Campaign.
